Description

This is a test render of a terrain combining low res bathymetry with 90m SRTM. The bathymetric data had to be manually modified to remove low resolution land areas protruding below higher res SRTM data. This was done by simply inverting all positive altitudes which wasn't the best approach, but was certainly the easiest to do. It took a while to come up with the right combination of water transparency to show detail in the deeper sections of the ocean but I'm quite happy with the result.

Very impressive render here. I like this view a lot. I think maybe the shore under the water is a little too brown, but all in all it looks great! Looking forward to seeing more

Thanks for all the comments. My first impression of the shallow water was also that it was too brown, but when you take into consideration that the sub-surface visibility is down to 4km while the shallow water is only 200-300m deep it's an acceptable trade off. I think the decreased resolution of the underwater terrain also helps to add to the diffusion effect of the water. I can take credit for the water settings, but the surfacing was just a quick rescaling of Oshyan's "The Boonies" surface.

Very impressive, i live in wellington (bottom of the north island) and i like seeing images of my country. Ive tried getting higher resolution DEM's of NZ before but its quite hard too, i have one of the entire country aswell and im thinking of giving one like this ago but with terragen 2, i think it will look even better with cloud covergae. Great job

I've tested it in TG2 but there is a water rendering issue at the moment that screws up the shallow water around the coast when rendered from this distance. When this is fixed, though, it will be very impressive with some good clouds.
