Description

For those of you who do not know about Cybermen, they are the second most famous monster in the British TV series "Doctor Who". They come from the planet Mondas, Earth's twin. Blasted away from the sun due to a freak accident they had to adapt to survive in the wastes of space, so they gradually replaced their bodies with Cybernetic ones. To allow them to function they removed emotions from their brains: the logic being that one who does not feel emotions cannot feel revulsion or horror at what they have become. When they reappeared in the re-imagined Doctor Who in 2006 they became more robot than cyborg, and came from an alternate Earth rather than being aliens. I decided I wanted to recreate a classic Cyberman look, but bring them a bit up to date, ie sleek. I don't like the robot look, or the way they move...hell, I don't like much about the 2006 Cyberman! I used M3 with 'spandex' set to full. The Cyberhead and Chest unit were built in TS4, while the body texture comes from an Iron Man bumnp map (source?). The boots are VP Dredd. They have a few more details to add, but this is pretty much how they'll look when complete. Oh, and I just noticed it says 2006 instead of 2007. What a pillock!!

A great job, I seem to remember the original suits looking as if they where made of tin foil. As for the 2005/6 series- personally I think that they are better than ever. Previously Tom Baker was my fave but after that- the 80's- the sfx where rubbish.

If (and it's a big if) I made these avaialable they would be free. These are too obvioulsy what they look like to be sold as something else. I would depend if I thought the actual model was good enough as well. I'll have a think... I would only make the helmet and chest unit available though. The body texture and the boots aren't mine to give away. Glad you like them, though. Thanks everyone ^_^

They work pretty well, but I don't recall the cybermen actually having muscles, which is the problem with the spandex suit. If you look closely at the cybermen from the "classic" Who, the "skin" is clearly more loosely fitting (esp. if you look at the Troughton era cybermen). Probably had to do it that way because the guys in the suits weren't particularly buff.

Good job on the Cybermen. I too do not like the re-imaged Cybermen from the new Doctor Who.... and many other things are too different. It's cool what you've done.

The muscles are there because I want to remind people that the Cybermen are more than robots. I could have done them in wetsuits or boiler suits but how would that have looked?

I built the head and chest unit it TS4, saved them as dxf files, opened them in Bryce, exported them as obj, opened them in DAZ Studio, added them to the M3 model exported the whole lot to Bryce, then applied the textures and rendered them. Phew!

Nice work - they look a bit too happy for Cybermen, though! Great work on the helmets.
