I always liked the 39 better than the forty. It is only recently reading books I found it also had hydraulic brakes!! Rodders always talked about putting 40 backing plates on their early iron and delighted in the 21A connecting rod that refers to the 38 model. There was the 59A block, though. That was the best. After seeing a 221 cu. in. version of that one with 24 studs at the Edison laboratory in Fort Meyers I had to cure my "What the Hell?" with research into service blocks with 24 studs and 239 cu. in. Of course it all makes sense. Sort of... Was the 39 Deluxe grille really painted? All the other trim clearly says Deluxe but the vertical bars say 40 Standard. What could be more custom than the last one off the line at changeover.
