Description

This is in one of my favorite parts of Memphis where I like to go shooting because partly it's the epitome of urban decay, very deep in the "hood", and also because 150 years ago it was Memphis' prime upscale real estate. So nowadays you see trash, beer cans, and God knows what mixed in with remnants of what's survived from some of the American South's finest 1800's architecture. Such a strange contrasting combination. Note the burglar bars on the lower windows. An absolute necessity in Memphis. An old woman lives here in this mid 1800's Victorian style mansion, located at Pontotoc Avenue & South Lauderdale Street. Although she's seen her beautiful neighborhood decay over the decades, she has steadfastly remained. Took this today as there was a light rain falling. There is a sizeable carriage house behind it, long since abandoned.

I've always love the Victorian architecture. It's a very interesting one for the forms and the colors. This house is so typical. I like the POV you've choose, perfect with the stairs and the red part of the house. Then the old part of Memphis is so contrasted. I'm really very happy to read that this wonderful house, and piece of history, isn't abandonated. The woman who live here must be someone very particular, I'm shure of that ;o)))) Have you got some others shots of this house ???? show me please..... A very bigh hugh. Have a nice sunday my friend.

Like the POV a lot. Reminds me of the old house I lived in during college (Houston) - beautiful house in a neighborhood that had seen better days.

Great mix of distressed textures (always a visual plus, in my book); the dizzying camera angle is what really makes this memorable. Way to sight it up!

Excellent point of view. Amazing colors and details. If only those walls could talk, what stories they could tell. Let's hope this beautiful structure continue to stand for many years to come.
