Description
3rd in an apparent series from a shoot I did last Saturday. The full story can be found on my second post Faded Glory & Urban Decay.
This is now an urban decay ghetto that was once the prime real estate of Memphis. 150 years can sure change a neighborhood!
Around the 1950's or so the mentality was to clear away the old to make way for the new. Unfortunately the "old" comprised of a lot of magnificent mid 1800's Victorian mansions. Don't ask me to explain the mind-set of destroying such incredible architectural structures, but they did just that to a lot of them.
In many areas, the lots remain vacant to this day, and the surrounding neighborhoods have turned into slums. Often the stone stairways leading up from the street (previous post), and the stone/concrete property borders (this post) are all that remain.
But the echoes of past memories also remain. You just have to catch them at the right time. And even though we're in the dead of winter, among the beer bottles and other trash there is always an unusual amount of green at the sites of these long lost architectural treasures. Most unusual. Most tragic.

Great visual contrast between the solid stone and the thin brittle branches. But the symbols they represent are also great: The solid stone which is old, steadfast and yielding only to erosion of time in contrast to the branches, alive and stretching toward the source of life, the sun. Excellent!

Thanks for the history buddy! Really interesting and something kinda common around the world if I dare say so... Excellent shot this is with the high contrast and low pov. Excellent capture! Thanks for sharing. Hope you are keeping well there.
