Description

TROPICANA [digital art piece No.1] Microsoft PictureIt came as part of a pre-installed software bundle when I bought my PC. At first I used it for the purpose for which it was intended - to enhance photographs and other images [scanned from my own traditionally-made art]. This was the first picture I made with the software, without using my own ready-made images. I used the basic shapes, and a few shapes I made myself, to make this very simple picture. Since I am happy to use reality [whatever that is] as simply a starting point for art, I found this process both fascinating and satisfying. Though I readily admire the remarkable skill and artistry in 3D modelling, perspective and the pursuit of 'realism' it has never been an ambition of mine. My art is unashamedly 2D and is essentially flat and decorative - probably closer to design than 'pure' art. This piece is undeniably crude and simplistic, and I could certainly make it a lot better now [particularly the rainbow!], but since it set me on my way so to speak, I'm still fond of my 'ugly duckling' Mike

Well Mike, as the song will confirm, "Very fine swan indeed". We all have to start somewhere and my beginnings ar far more humble. Think it was MGI Photosuite that got me started. Beautiful Sir! Steve :o)

Can't say I'm too wild about all the shades of gray, or should we be fancy and say 'chiaroscuro' :o) quite skillful execution though, Mike ! ~ Hugs ~ Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

I love the colourization of only the rainbow and the sunset. It emphasizes them so wonderfully. Sometimes simplicity gives the eye a pleasant place to rest. Thanks BJ

It has your vibrant flair for color and a very modern art look to it. Always fun to see the beginnings. CC

I fail to see the ugly duckling! The colours are bright and bold and it fits the theme well, a very pleasing display!
