Description

First humble post among the artistic greatness that abounds here. It's been a tough week learning Bryce. Textures look horrible right out of the box. Hard edges on horizon and waterlines. Could not even get water to look like water, or a mountain to look like a mountain (other then lumpy and elevated). Finally, after tweaking around for what seems 987464535 hours over the last week, I think I got something a bit more realistic looking. The first step of what undoubtedly will be many years in the making to join rank with some of these incredible creations I have seen here. Tips, help, critiques, or whatever you may have to offer is greatly appreciated by this newbie. Thanks for stopping by!

It ONLY took 987464535 hours to tweak this image? That's fast. Nice work. Like the splashing water effect. Bryce requires a lot of patience. I've tried any number of times and then gave up. But there are a lot of people doing wonderful things with it. It looks like you are on your way to join them.

I like it. Better water than I have ever managed. A real test for a first render. Looks great and the texture ....erm...rocks! LOL. Keep em coming!!!!!

Thanks all. The only way I finally got a texture looking any good was to import a bitmap, merge it with the stock "whole mountain", ramp up the frequency, then play with color and altitude in that DTE section. Its crazy! Its fun! Unlike Houdini or Max, seems Bryce is just an infinite world of "guessing". I guess I like it :)

Once someone helps me, perhaps I can help another. Currently, I just pull on the blue thingies in the Material Editor a bunch..play with all the scaling (parametric, world view, etc), and then go into the DTE and push all the buttons...go render, take a look, go back to pushing and pulling things. I have no idea what I am doing, that's why it took me a week to even get a halfway decent look. So, push buttons, cross fingers, and happy rendering to you! :)

Well this looks most excellent! I'm not very familiar with water myself so I think you definetely earn five stars:) This is very realistic looking! I think you have done a great effect here and the next thing would be use it in larger scene for example this could be a shoreline and there would be some city in the back or something like that:) And you're right about that guessing.. it's Bryce:)
