Description

Hi again everyone :) It's been a loooong time since I last posted anything here on Renderosity. It's good to be back home :) It's been a while since I worked on a mattepainting, so I wanted to create something to keep my skills up to date. This one took me a couple of weeks to make. I worked on it when I came home from school. I wanted to create something that looks like it could have been taken straight from a classic fairytale, yet still be somewhat realistic. The castle is of course inspired by the beautiful castle Neuschawnstein in Bavaria. It was a lot of fun lighting for this special sunrise lighting situation. The forest is made using 3D trees from Xfrog, so I could get as close to my initial sketch as possible. I hope you like it! Comments and critiscm is most welcome :) Best regards, Thomas

Great picture, but another castle than Neuschwanstein would be far better.

Wow! Deja Vu! I just saw this posted at MP.org and was looking at all the intricate details of this scene! I really admire your skills of realizing these wonderful worlds and I am very impressed with your gallery! I just recently started to dabble in matte painting and have much to learn, but this is very inspirational! Magnificent imagination and one gorgeous fantasy scene!

Good to see you back! This is (as always) a really wonderful piece of work. I personally find the light beams to be a little dominant, they also take away some of the contrast and detail from the forest and mountains. I love the highlights on the castle, they really make it pop out and give a very fairytale-like atmosphere. My compliments!

where have you been? at last some piece of work with no boobies. As always some awesome work here but I agree with Sabra - it's dominant because of the dark patch foreground on the left. i'd rather have you continue the water there so the eyes will flow right up the bridge and into the castle ~ my less than 2 cents worth of critique.
