The mockingbird is the state bird of Arkansas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas. It beautifully mimics the calls of other birds with long lilting songs of great variety. It is said that is also can mimic other sounds such as from animals and mechanical sounds. It sings at twilight, at dusk, and even long into the night. Many a Saturday morning, when we ~could~ have slept late, have we been awakened early and even in the night by a particularly loud and vocal mockingbird right outside our window! Their beautiful songs don't seem quite so lovely at that moment, lol. They guard their nests most fiercely, and I've seen many a squirrel and even my mom's cat dived bombed and struck repeatedly by a mockingbird guarding his territory and mate. This one here was playing snowbird while I was out walking through the woods admiring yet another snow that have had. Thanks for looking and thanks very kindly for your generous comments!
