Description

Number one in a series of four. This is a Bucilla needlepoint kit, which originally measured 14" by 14". In order to make it work as a seat cover for one of my dining room chairs, it had to be about 14 inches across the back, 17 inches across the front, and 16 inches deep. I expanded the pattern to cover the desired space. (It's just like painting, only much slower, and with wool yarn.) So everything you see in the middle 14" square came pre-printed on the canvas, and everything outside that square was something I made up myself based on what was already there. (Use the smallest dimension across the back to get an idea of how much 14" is in this image.) Here are some answers to the most frequently asked questions I get about needlepoint: There are 144 stitches per square inch. It takes me most of a summer to do one, but I have no idea how many hours that comes out to. This is a process-oriented activity. It takes no patience at all - if you like the process, it's just how you're spending your time. If you want quick results, don't take up hand sewing in any form as a hobby! I've been sewing for 40 years, but it doesn't take that long to learn how to do this.

So lovely. I like the process too. It is a good and creative way to pass the time. I have given away most of my works in counted cross stitch. My compliments on the two you have already posted.

This is gorgeous! I do love hydrangeas. That is an awesome amount of time, but I think you will enjoy these chairs for a very long time. I crochet and knit, but have never taken up needlepoint, yet.
