Poser 7 and some minor postwork with PI 12
Monitor lizards are considered to be the most derived lizards, possessing a relatively high metabolic rate for reptiles and several sensory adaptations that benefit the hunting of live prey. Recent work indicates that the Varanid lizards, including the Komodo dragon, do indeed have venom. The bleeding, swelling, and infection from varanid bites are therefore not solely due to strains of bacteria in their mouths, as previously believed. Some monitor lizards are apparently capable of parthenogenesis.

Dear Roland, I'm glad to see a new post from you - it's been a while!!!! The monitors are very unique. I followed the recent parthenogenetic birth of one of them on the web. It's an interesting adaptation found in a number of reptiles and amphibians. And - once in a while, it can actually happen with mammals, too, although there the progeny must be female. I too read an article a while back about the venomous nature of the monitors. And just to give Jeff (jif3d) more things to worry about, there are many lizards which are venomous. I think if I were any of the girls above, I'd be running for the horizon!!! I'm not a fan of ANY reptiles!!! Slave or otherwise, I'd sure be trying to be someplace else!!!!! ;-) Great job posing all the gals and the lizard!!! Very wild and scary set! It reminds me of the cover from an old sci-fi book set far in the future when Earth had again gone very wild and humans were just hanging on to survival!!! Superb job with all the colors and color effects! Very excellent work!!!!!! Love ya!!! Meredith
