Description

At one time there were 30 subspecies listed quite a few of these are questionable this african species is the least endangered, and 9 are now extinct from those 3 are possibly as few a 3 or 4 in the wild.. So fair to say extinct to all intents and purposes.. The name leopard derives from the ancient belief that the animal was a hybrid between a lion and a black panther (leo is Latin for lion and pard is an old term for panther). Leopards are also called panthers in some parts of the world, and the Panther is supposed to have a longer tail.. Most leopards are light tan or fawn with black rosettes, but their coat color is highly variable. There are smaller rosettes and spots on the head. As always thanks for taking time to look and any comments you care to make..

I like the confusion with the seal in symbolizing the king. There is one at Lowery Zoo that roars magnificently.
