Description

Lots of reading this time. LOL As luck would have it, I had half a day off this week and chose to play rather than do things around the house like I should have been. And thus, here are the results of my latest experimentations. This started out as a test of a V4 morph I did and somehow evolved into something totally different, a test of using pwSurface for ambient lighting effects and how to fake neon in D/S. After some experimentation, I came up with the following for the neon, and how you see it is exactly how it rendered. I'm sure there are other ways and better ways, but I was pretty happy with the way this turned out. For neon signs, the image map should have a black or very dark background and letters in either white (or shades of grey and white if you want it more dimensional and realistic). I did not make this sign's image map, it comes with The Bowery. You might also want to give the letters a bit of a gaussian blur to simulate the halo of light often seen with neon. Use your image map in all of the following channels with additional settings as shown: Diffuse color Diffuse strength - 100% Specular colour - white or a much lighter shade of the neon colour Ambient color - white or a much lighter shade of the neon colour Then set the following as shown: Glossiness - anywhere from 80-95% seems to work Specular strength - 100% Bump Strength - if desired. I didn't use it in this image, but when I do, I crank it way up most of the time and change my settings to -.5 and .5 for middle distances. Then hop on over to the DAZ Studio Freepository and grab the scripts for using the updated lights that come with the SDK. Add a point light and colour it the same or slightly lighter as the colour of your neon and place it close but not directly on your sign. You'll have to play with the intensity and decay settings. I found that intensity from 100-200 and decay from about 95-150 worked well, depending on the situation. In this particular image the intensity was 200 and the decay was 101. Turn on raytraced shadows. Don't use the regular point lights unless you feel like pulling your hair out, because they won't work. In this image the only light is the one red point light. The ambient light comes from pwSurface's indirect lighting channel. I had very unpredictable and unpleasant results mixing the updated point light with distant lights, weird stuff happening. Possibly very useful for something else but not for what I was trying to do. I suppose that'll be another test sometime. LOL As always, thanks so much for looking. A special thanks to those of you who left comments on my last few images. They are always greatly appreciated. Hopefully I'll be able to peek into your galleries this weekend and see what's all new. Have a wonderful weekend all! :D

Great job on that neon! I'll have to play with some of those settings to try that out. Character morphing and posing is well done too! Thanks for sharing.

I find it hard that such a big and busty girl made it up that high without being winded, but it is an awesome pic, great work and thanks for the "how too!"

Great POV. Beautiful character and pose. Lovely face. I'm coming! If she had less clothes I would run faster. 8-) Fantastic posing of her hair. I think the neon effect did come out perfectly. Better doing this than to do things around the house. 8-)

If I had more time for more hobbies I would certainly try and take up 3D rendering...your gallery is impressive.
