Description
Nearly two years ago, March 15, 2005, our home was burglarized and one of the items stolen was my nearly new 19" thin panel Envision color monitor (which I had just paid $551.00 for!). They monitor was recovered, but has been held in evidence for all this time, but today I was finally able to pick it up again. However, that is not the topic of this picture...
While at the police station, here in Cahokia, Illinois, I encountered a statue of friar and child. I had to get a picture of this. It was behind the police department, near the trash bin. The paint on it is chipped and it seems to have a tag tied to it as though it may be some kind of "evidence." (Maybe it was stolen?). It seemed so poignant with the friar holding this child. Their faces seem so solemn and sad. What ever has happened to them, they share their fates together. Peeling paint, bird droppings and all. It struck me as kind of sad and I wondered, if they could speak, what story would they tell?
I have done some post work on the picture to add some drama, but I did not edit out the chipped paint and other flaw intentionally.
I still wonder what this statue is doing, out of sight, behind the police station...
NOTE: Since writing the above note, I have learned that this is a statue of St. Anthony of Padua, the patron saint of (among other things) "lost articles" and "seekers of lost articles" ... which is very ironic.
