The excellent relations between the human race and the Alyuri are owed to the good sense of the pioneers who set out to colonize New Tasmania. Neither species was even aware of the other previously, but the terraforming units entered orbit almost in the same second. Despite a huge language barrier, which only time and very hard work could lower, both sides saw the value in collaboration, rather than conflict. Parallel evolution had produced two species with much in common, particularly and crucially in the shared need for an oxygen-rich atmosphere. Terraforming clothed the planet in a mixture of Earth and Alyuram flora. The initial colonies were separate, but friendly, and these steadily coalesced. One Earth century later and this scene could be from New Tasmania, or from any other city in human or Alyuri space.
