Description

Two for the price of one!! But which one do you prefer? One is raw unprocessed the other adjusted in curves, levels, ND grad added, sharpened. I was amazed how much background became visible after adjustments. I would say you can see 4 or 5 miles further in the processed image. Needless to say if you don't view full size you won't see what I'm on about. Also press F11 key to get rid of menu bars in Internet Explorer (press F11 again to return to normal) Comments appreciated & thanks for looking! ~Steve~

Splendid view! Very hard to choose one! Every picture is so beautiful in its own way! :)

The subtleness of the first one has it's appeal as does the vividness of the bottom. I'd say layer them together and adjust the transparency to get a perfect blend. :) If I had to chose, I'd say the adjusted one, but the foreground rocks are just a little "much" if you get my drift.

It is a great Demo of how you can bring out cloud detail, but I am with Kort, and perhaps this would look better with the same sharpness at the first... This is a beautiful scene Steve.

Interesting experiment. I guess both contain the same amount of information but its the mood of the viewer or the context that makes the difference. Top one is my prefence :)

The atmo ain't the same at all !! The first one is less "hard" (or violent ?) than the other one. It probably depends on whiwh atmo you want to see... but I think they complete each other, you did well when uploading both at the same time. Very impressive shot and great pw !!!

the postwork really does open it up. It changes the texture a bit too & I'm not sure about that change but I really like the view expanding so far!

Well Steve, good to share this technique, I have a lot to learn about postwork. I prefer the second because my memory tells me that this is how I recall views in the Lakes when hill walking, vibrant and stunning, err that is when you can see the hills !

I like them both, but I think Kort is right in saying a combination of both of them would work well!

I think is very interesting example I use to do some similar like you and look much better with this postwork. Great pic. Hugs

Perfect example how curves, levels, contrast and sharpening can add so much to a scene! I always put sharpening on a separate layer, and try for 50% luminance or so. I wouldn't have left it off, though, as was suggested, it added so many more interesting details!

"Before" wirkt auf mich natuerlicher, "After" ist eben alles klarer und deutlicher, das ist Ansichts-Sache, mir gefaellt "Bevore" besser!

I think the processed image is much better by far...the color and clarity of structures in the background and even foreground make it much more appealing to me. What program do you use to do the post work?

just goes to show how good things look after a bit of tinkering, even the grass has more life in the adjusted one. There are a few of my shots (thinking of "sunstone" here) which i almost threw out because they looked bad, but after a bit of tinkering in levels and curves they look so much better. I am a lover of crisp shots (have you noticed yet?) so i think the rocks and grass look great in the "after" shot ;) Nice presentation and a cracking shot to illustrate it.

Excellent picture, an dI really prefer the second with treatment.... We must make this nowaday because the digital captor are not enough contrast for keeping some details in darkness and hignlights... And if we want a little bit of contrast, we must added it in posttreatment...

Very interesting to see this. Excellent post processing. The Lake District usually looks a bit hazy like the first image but the second is a dramatically better picture.
