Description
I called up the captain
"Please bring me my wine"
"We haven't kept that spirit here,
"Since we last went to MMI"*
(The Eagles, American poets, c. 1976)
* MMI: one of two off-licence chains allowed to sell alcohol to licensed non-Muslims in the United Arab Emirates.
Here with a Loaf of Bread beneath the Bough,
A Flask of Wine, a Book of Verse - and Thou
Beside me singing in the Wilderness -
And Wilderness is Paradise enow.
(The Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam, Persian poet, mathematician and astronomer, c. 1100, transmogrified E. Fitzgerald, 1859)
Taken somewhere in the hinterlands of Sharjah, United Arab Emirates, around February 2006.
Minolta SLR, Kodacolor Gold ISO 200, if I remember right (Velvia is near impossible to find in the UAE), polarising filter. Can't remember film speed and aperture.
Minor cropping to remove the filter mount shadow; no other post-work.
