Description
Acrylic on 60 x 50 cm canvas.
Trying to break out of my safe little box and express something a little more emotional than atmospheric. Fear is something that I found very difficult to express visually, probably too frightened of what I really see. I may be too close to my own subconscious to tell now, and held back on the macabre as I wanted to be able to hang it on the wall, but I think I got close to what I originally envisaged.
Thanks so much for viewing and your thoughts are always appreciated.

I do hope you produce more works in this aesthetic! Those jagged graphics and hazy impressions counterpart the horse's realism so well, reaching a perfect balance. I think you know by now how much I adore this work, I think I've been telling you often enough ;-) It's been a joy and an education watching this piece evolve from its first bold strokes. In my (admittedly not wholly unbiased but what the hell) opinion, this is a total success and it's just as well that you want to hang it on the wall as I want to be looking at it for a long time yet ;-) Thank you so much for all you do lots of love and squishy hugs xxx

Emotions are so hard to put in an image in a novel and unique way. It appears that you are running out of your box, in fact the horse is breaking away! This image gives one lots to think about, and I think you did a wonderful job of not only depicting fear but breaking out of it as well! (The red and hazy box in the corner added to the whole appeal. Thank you.

Funny the first thing I saw was fear but didn't know it. What I saw was a hourse running away from a van ( the box ) which had come to take it away to the glue factory. I sure would be afraid of that. Well done.

Fear drives us. However much we run it dogs our heels in search of the moment we slow just that little bit for it to catch and devour us. White the void. Red the heart pounding. Black the darkness that swallows. Both chaotic and precise. Fear is universal and intimately personal, and you have made this work of art your own. hugs very hard

Yes, fear is in he eye of the horse, and he seems to run....nowhere. or is it a projection? A very strong image cassie, that cannot fail to influence the viewer. I love the colors red-black-white, have always done, but seldom use. Only when I fingerpaint. it is a stronger direct expression when you paint with "your body"

It's a challange to create an original work about a subjective emotion like fear without resorting to cliches (gothic horror film iconography in this case) because we tend to depict the thing feared, instead of the emotion itself. So credit to you Cassie for seeking a fresh, and I think sucessful, approach! There's such tension in this. This gives me an idea on this theme... ;-)

Thank you everyone for your thoughtful comments :) I haven't actually used black in this painting, but paynes grey with flecks of cobalt blue and hookers green. I very rarely use black at all in my works as I find it too dead, the reflections of light within mixed colours makes the work more visually exciting for me. Most looking forward to seeing what this has inspired for you Nigel, so pleased to hear I have given you some ideas hugs :)

Hi Cassie, I too think you have pulled it off the confined space makes me think of panic and fear along with the alarming use of red, nice one.
