Description

Back to vintage Sci-fi (and back from the hospital). This time "metal miniatures"! The 3D mesh was created by Winchell Chung, a new 3D friend of mine and the artist who made the original artworks for the classic 1976 wargame "Ogre" by Steve Jackson Games. Yesterday Winchell was so kind to send me the 3D mesh for free. The ship portraited, the Orion heavy cruiser, came from the Stardate 3000 line of metal miniatures starships produced by Valiant Enterprises as counters for the 1977 boardgame Alpha Omega (only ancient game geeks like me have ever seen this game and this miniatures - I still own the Orion metal miniature). The Stardate 3000 metal miniatures are still produced by Valiant Enterprises. Winchell recreate the Orion shape in Blender with no blueprints, using only the tiny metal miniature and a 15x jeweler's loupe to see the tiny details. The final object came out really well, better than the physical model. I export the blender shape in obj, and textured it in Bryce. The artwork is my version of the original Valiant Enterprises artwork for the metal miniatures. Comments and rates are welcome :)

What a nifty tribute to a ground-breaking board game of the 1970's! :-) I played "Alpha Omega" as a teenager and still have a "Stardate 3000" pamplet in my collection from that era.

The overall is image is top-notch! The lighting shows the modeler's details and the texture is perfect for this type of spaceship. Thanks for posting is 5 Star image :-)
