"The common cormorant or shag Lays eggs inside a paper bag, The reason you will see no doubt It is to keep the lightning out. But what these unobservant birds Have never noticed is that herds Of wandering bears may come with buns And steal the bags to hold the crumbs." ~ Christopher Isherwood
BJ (mamabobbijo) requested a photo of the culprit responsible for the rash of violent and uncalled for decoy dunkings. Well, I wrongly blamed an Anhinga when it turns out it was really this nefarious looking Cormorant! Yes, those piercing eyes are their actual color -- full of malice and dark intent to overturn unsuspecting decoys. If you see this fellow in your area, go inside, lock your doors, and call the authorities immediately! I have a major project at work so will not be around much for the rest of the week, but I wanted to make sure I got the word out. PS. - I hope that no one experiences any triskaidekaphobia today! ;'] -----

OK - so am I just being thick here but is that a real bird or is that the decoy??!!! (Yeah I know, I'm being thick LOL!!) Triskaidekaphobia? Heck no; today's my lucky day! Not everyday you get to see a blue-eyed cormorant on RR, heh heh.... Nice shot, Kort.

Magnificent capture of this apparently arrogant avian, standing on the decoy, beady eyes defiantly observing the scene. Love the water texture and reflections. Don't the Japanese use Cormorants for fishing purposes? Incidentally, I only suffer from triskaidekaphobia on Fridays.

a few years for two summers one of these guys was hanging around my neighborhood and would follow my dogs and myself when we were walking. at the time I did not know what kind of bird it was. he would get nearly 10-15 feet from us, as it had no fear of dogs. I know it was begging for a handout. excellent capture and funny

Why I oughta....!! Here you are trying to attract some birds and this one lands on the decoy, how nuts is that? The decoy must be huge to support this commorant....love the look of that water, just dreamy! Aloha Bra!

He looks quite pleased with himself...Great shot!
