Description

This is probably the single most painful render I've ever done. It's such a simple setup and standard textures that I thought it would be a breeze. but no. I have found that glass, HDRI and DOF in Bryce are really not a good combination. The first pass completed and it said 18 days to go! So In the end I gave up and rendered without DOF. This was more like 18 hours. But it took 3 attempts before it finally wouldn't stall during the AA pass. Anyway, this is my entry for the "Kiss my Glass" Bryce forum competition. Wings models (In my Freestuff OBP format if you want it), Bryce 6.1 render (love them new IBL options and Photoshop postwork. Thanks for looking. Here is the Carrara version which took 1.5 hours WITH DOF. file_373965.jpg Thanks for those who voted for me.

Awesome work Phil, you're a glutton for punishment, shame on you for even trying DoF, Glass and HDRI in one bryce image (unless you've recently upgraded to some form of super computer) :)

Absolutely gorgeous and same as my findings too, Phil. My rough estimate is 100x slower with IBL, or even slower. Wow, gotta wonder who had this brilliant idea for a glass contest, trying to melt us down?!!Nevertheless, fun to watch all the pain and gain. Nothing like a good piece of glass, all shiny there

I feel the same pain. With 40 Gigaflops under our hoods we should be able to render much faster.

Superb quality both of them, was it the same probe, if so one is interpreting it massively different to the other.

You'd love just how fast modo can render scenes like that. We're talking minutes on my machine. Seconds on faster ones.

Outstanding Bryce Entry

Further evidence that Bryce should be marketed as a 'Ray-Tracer' firstly, and not as a 'Landscape' program. Granted it does landscapes, but it shines as a ray-tracer given the proper talent as this image shows :)

Both are equally impressive renders!...The Bryce looks more realistic (IMHO) Inspiring images and work! Make me want to try harder in both apps. I love Vue 5 Infinite hdri set up, though!

Very nice work for Bryce :) I started using Carrara about a year ago or so, and I thought something was wrong when I was rendering high end images in a very short period of time.
