Description

Bacteriorhodopsin is a photosynthetic pigment used by archaea, most notably halobacteria. It acts as a proton pump, i.e. it captures light energy and uses it to move protons across the membrane out of the cell. The resulting proton gradient is subsequently converted into chemical energy. Bacteriorhodopsin is an integral membrane protein. From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. CREDITS Protein from the Protein Database. PDB file converted to an obj using VMD 1.8.4 the obj file was 269Mb in size, which is probably why it took 35 mins to load!! Render time 8 mins. Note to any microbiologists out there:- Yes I know it should be PURPLE!!!!!!!!!

Excellent conversion and artwork Steve!!! You could try the free program Stomp and see if it can reduce the obj file size the next time a conversion like this comes up.

Wow! Great info and image. Hard to imagine things like this really exist. Even harder for me to believe some think it is all an accident of nature.
