Description
I'm walking along a nature trail very early in the morning just as the sea fog begins to lift. I'm half a mile in on this particular trail, with absolutely no other human being within sight or earshot when I come across this pond. On a path that comes right up to the water's edge, I spot these ~huge~ fellows and snap three shots. When the third one, the one in the water with just the eyes showing ... who is only fifteen feet away, btw!!!... looks right at me and starts swimming straight towards me, I immediately envision myself as a fat, juicy chicken leg and decide that there is no way in Hades that I'm going to finish this trail, and coming to the conclusion that discretion is the better part of valor, quickly high tail it back to the truck. It's one thing to see them on TV, in the zoo, or in a park, where there are very secure barriers between you and the alligator, but it's quite another thing to be in a huge 2200 acre wildlife reserve with nothing between you and your Maker but a few short tufts of grass and a few feet of muddy water! I can laugh now, but I'm sure my BP went plumb off the charts, hence the title of this image!
Thanks very kindly for stopping to have a look, and have a good weekend... Maria

Geat photos. Good thing your bp did not have your camera shaking like a leaf on a tree. Alligators are impressive animals and these are some great photos of them.

My blood pressure and pulse are about the same as the title, and I only read about your experience. I didn't live through what you did. Holy cow. But you sure got some great shots out of the deal. You're a lot braver than I am; then again, you're a far better photographer too.

Well God is certainly watching over you my dear! I think I would be a freaking out if I had been there. My goodness what adventures you have had lately. I am glad that the one ally did not make an attempt for you. Lucky you to get such beautiful shots before your hasty retreat! Well done!

I know how you feel . for I was out of the boat crabing one time and this big 15 footer came out of the water and was between me and the boat lol. Another boat came just then and the guy made a noise and the gator turn around and went back into the water along with 15 other gators I did not see. I got into the boat and left the crabbing stuff behind. I ask the man what the noise that made all those gators go into the water and after him. He say it was a mateing call. He took off in his boat and My friend and I took off in his boat and we went home with three dozen crabs. I never went back to that place. May now to take some photos.

Thrilling shots. Teh only gators I've seen were in Florida when I took a tour of the springs out there. Fascinating. I have seen the damage they do when I lived in Texas but never saw one there in the flesh. Great shots!

Incredible shots, Maria. Truly, amazing captures.. You are so right, quite another thing to take shots when the creatures are safely contained. Always care for you first, please.. You are one brave lady, you would not have see my heels for DUST. I would have been totally terrified :-( Hugs for you, not the gators!! Diane.

I too like to see wildlife up close up but with a nice barrier between us as I would make a very easy dinner for them otherwise.

I can imagine the croc was saying the samething. His/her blood pressure went up at seeing such a wonderful looking meal and he/she was also thinking that there was nothing but some grass and muddy water between him/her and you!! Terrific image and yes I am sure he/she wanted you to keep walking the trail..........lol
