My name? Eric den Biesen, a Canadian of Dutch ancestry. I'm 46 years young, though I sometimes feel MUCH older. I generally like to model in trueSpace, though I'm learning Carrara and Hexagon as well. Not much free time for it, so anything I'm building progresses REAL slowly. :( I like to illustrate my tales of the Imperium with Poser and/or Bryce, or that story's prequel, Siren's Song, the story of the Human/Mer first Contact. Neither story is more than outline, and bits are told through the pics I do. And because it's fun, of course. :)

Critique Ring comment -- I like this work technically. I think that you can bring the main figures into sharper prominence by varying the lighting. If you can get cast shadows moving across, rather than back, then there is a more dynamic feel to the work. You might try using two main lights, one located behind and to the right a little, and the other behind and to the left a little more. Another possibility is to rotate the two figures to produce more space between them, so it is clearer to the viewer that the human's shadow falls back into his cell (which I take it is your intent.) You might also consider using ambient occlusion to better ground the figures on the floor, and possibly apply a bitmap (or even displacement) to the floor texture to give a little more illusion of depth to it. Overall, a very fine work.

Nice idea on the space between them so the shadow is more visible. I never thought of that, but it sure would make the image more powerful. I haven't used ambient occlusion because it kept crashing P7, just like motion blur. I have SR1 now, but don't know yet if it fixed the problem.
