Description

This was taken a bit after sunrise, right around 7:00 AM, before the visitor center at the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park had even opened. This side of the island gets a lot of rain, and this is actually steam rising from places where the water has seeped down to where it hit rock hot enough to boil it. Later in the day the caldera was fogged in, so I feel lucky to have gotten a few shots like this. We spent the whole day here; I'll try not to bore everyone to tears with lava pics. But I'm happy to say I witnessed the creation of the newest land on earth, as I saw molten lava oozing out of the ground. Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

Oh boy, can't wait to see more!! Look out sharky!!! This is a great shot of the steam rising!!! Such an interesting terrain. I just heard a volcano in New Zealand is very active right now too! Super image Dennis!!!!

Wow! What a vast caldera! How curious to see steam rising from the earth. I'm on the east coast of the US and have seen fog rising in plumes like that, and sometimes even smoke rising, but never steam. Great shot!

If the rest of the pictures are as good as these first two I, too, am willing to look at all 1500. I wonder where you are planning to go on your next trip. You went to Canada, Ken and I are going to Canada this June. You went to Hawaii, Ken and I are going next year. So if you wil let me know where you are going on your next trip maybe I will know where I'm going after Hawaii. :>)
