Description

Hey y'all. Just me fooling around in photoshop some more. I've seem images of photoshopped geisha makeup, but it was "this one" that really (!) inspired me... I think it's just brilliant. (Insert two-thumbs-up smiley. ;^P) Soooooo, I thought I'd have a go at it myself and this was the result. To be honest, the original shot was not the greatest, but I think it still came out okay. I do like how it references 'old school' chiarascuro portraiture and yet has a modern feel. Anyway, I hope you will like it, too. As always, any words of advice and encouragement is most appreciated...as are all friendly hello's...I'm not picky...lol. ;^P Oh and thanx again for your comments on my last: thumb_1400969.jpg"Smile!" By the way, I edited it and animated it more... Now she literally 'smiles for the camera', and you see my flash. Just thought I'd pass that boring little piece of info onto you, lol. Hmmm...I say 'LOL' waaaay too much! ;^D Okie dokie. See ya round! Hope y'all have a wonderful week! -Marlene :^)

(haven't been here in a bit & love going into your back-gallery)...I think this is a very sensitive job with both the old Renaissance chiaroscuro that you mention as well as the simplicity & delicacy of the Japanese print. It's a photographic image, but you've treated it to appear print-like in the deft flattening of her face, the pronounced eyes & lips (so typical of Japanese prints & their theatrical prints as well), and the play of gold against black, also very Japanese. The calligraphy is applied perfectly, always a bit like falling vines (love the angled taper at the bottom, harmonizing with the angle of the woman's chest), and the hair is both photographic & painterly, reminding me that the Renaissance masters used real gold to highlight hair & chalices, etc. Honestly, I took it for granted that you combined these styles so seamlessly; but I shouldn't take it for granted because it's amazing that you do it with such naturalness. I think this is photomanipulation at its best, Marlene. (And as an aside, I think it would be great if the Japanese translated as a recipe for potato pancakes or something, just to keep people on their toes...) I think this is beautiful Marlene, I really do.
