Description

This is from maybe 2 meters away from some of the newest rock on earth, at least at the time. Even had it been safe, we couldn't get much closer than this, because it was just too hot. What surprised me most about this was the noise. As it flowed the lava groaned and popped and hissed. As it cooled we could watch and hear pieces flake off. Fascinating stuff. I could have watched all day. Check tomorrow for a comparison shot.

That is such a wild shape for the flow. I could easily get lost staring at this a day too. I like the details you captured.Almost looks like old growth tree trunks. No wonder Errol finds it so interesting.

What an amazing shot. I love all the twists and knots and textures, and I had no idea that lava would make sounds. I was surprised when we visited Alaska to discover the sounds the glaciers made and how alive they sounded. This series is totally fascinating.
