Description

Please notice that this image is quite large. If you click on the full view, you will be able to see a LOT of detail. All of the quilting is being done by hand. The frame that's in the middle of the quilt is a lap frame. It's to keep the quilt tight while I work. The masking tape (front view) is to keep my lines straight. If I work on it at about the same rate as I have in the past few yars, it will take me another six or seven years to finish. If I work on it at the rate I have been THIS winter, I'll never get it done! I've been spending all my time making art and playing on Renderosity. I don't do any quilting in the summer. It's too hot to sit around with a blanket on my lap, so it gets put away when the weather warms up. The text that's embroidered on the back is as follows (I've clone-stamped out my family names - they really are there on the quilt): This star patterned quilt top was made in Eatonville, Washington in 1935 by my Great-Grandmother, Ella B. The squares were pieced by hand, and the sashing was attached by machine. It was originally filled with hand-carded wool and tied with light blue cotton, comforter style. Grandma B. cut it in half in about 1970, intending to give one half to each of her two daughters, Violet S. and my Grandmother, Olga S. Grandma Olga ended up with both halves and gave them to me to restore. T K Snohomish, Washington 1992

Wow hon, quilts are an art unto themselves. What time and energy it takes to create so beautiful and useful a piece of art. My mother-in-law started a tatted tablecloth when she was in high school. She has been doing little bits of it for years and it is about 1/2 done. It is so beautiful but I'm afraid she will never get it done. It has a lovely pineapple design. I bow to you!

Incredible to see these images, Tara! Such dedication and skill required to renovate this work of art. I started making a quilt some years ago. To my absolute shame it is a bag under the stairs!! I shall get it out and see just how far I got with it :-(( Wonderful shots, thank you so much for sharing this piece of family history with us all. Hugs. Diane.
