Description

Okay - the title seems a bit obvious. But it was pretty exciting, standing that close to this freight train! And look how long it is - you can't even see the end of it around that last bend. I took this photograph about a mile from my house, as the crow flies. Maybe a couple miles by car. When it's quiet, late at night, and especially if it's foggy (which it often is,) I can hear the trains from my house. Of course the whistle is loud enough, but when conditions are just right, I can hear the wheels on the track. That's such an evocative sound. Train! Whoo-whoo . . . Down the track Engine pulls the load Car after car after car See it go by Did you count? Caboose, gone, Train! (Poetry lovers will recognize the form. First line is one word, then two, three, four, five, four, three, two and one. A fellow poet here reminded me of it. He wears a cap. Can you guess his identity?) I almost forgot. I got a few shots of the train where the engine was in perfect focus. It just looked like the train was sitting on the track. No sense of movement. So for once, I picked the blurrrrrrrr! :)

What a neat shot Tara...gives a real sense of movement with the engine blurry and the rest in focus....sure is purty, too, in yer neck of the woods :o) Now I searched the dim recesses of my memory and couldn't come up with what the poetic form is??? Hope you have a most wunderbar Saturday ! ~ Hugzzzzz ~

A wonderful shot, Tara. Love the motion blur, really gives the feeling of speed. I can honestly say I have never seen a train this long, the sound must be awesome. Love the verse too... I apolgise for not knowing the poet. Happy evening. Hugs. Diane.

Oops! The poet was yours truly - I wrote it myself, specifically for this image. Sorry! I'm used to posting in the writer's gallery, where everyone knows it's all original work!

I live maybe 1/2 mile from some very busy tracks with freight and Amtrak. between it and a railroad staging area it is noisy with the windows open. I like the blur from the motion

Wonderful capture Tara. I live near the trains myself and love the sound (Of course I am just "far enough" away!) I love the blur for motion, and the wispy green that is starting to emerge in your neck of the woods! Excellent!
