I'm more interested in the stuff it's rolling over; I know it's rock but it looks like rope or a carpet. As for the lava itself--anyone remember that episode of Star Trek with the rock creature that ate through everything?

Yes, fiery paws moving across what looks like a weaved straw mat of some sort. Excellent colors, contrast, textures and POV in this awesome shot.

I wonder how long it will take to cool down when no lava is following! ;o)

Depending how thick the lava is beneath the cooled crusted surface (still hot). That area that seems crusted on the surface can and will probably inflate with a large amount of hot lava left within. Even if after the flow stops, the crusted surface will keep the heat within and that lava inside will remain red hot for a long time.....months maybe... Thanks for asking and commenting.... Aloha
