Description


Another shot from the Great Smoky Mountains. This style of self-supporting fence was quite common in the old days. No nails, wires, or any kind of connecting material. And very strong too. The fence surrounds the farm field where crops will be growing this summer. It's function is to keep wild animals out. 7th in a series of photographs from my trip last week to the Great Smoky Mountains. Thanks for viewing!

There are still a few of these relics south of the Mason-Dixon Line. Really a marvel of engineering, considering the technology involved. An interesting subject; thanks for sharing!
