I am no longer active here. Too many restrictions and unpleasant interactions with admin.
In addition I now focus on traditional art, which is very neglected on this site.

About my Art - Watercolor, Poser &Vue I have been painting mainly with transparent watercolor on paper. Most of my paintings depict hypothetical situations and imaginary scenes, striving to capture ideas and moods rather then a resemblance to specific places or people. On many occasions more than one way forward suggest themselves either from the onset or during the painting process. I like to explore these possibilities in different paintings and thus I have several ongoing themes (Some examples of themes I worked on are shown in the image above). I started useing Poser and then Vue mainly to set up virtual models and/or scenes which are then painted in watercolor. The CG images were supposed to be only an intermediate stage, but I now got the CG bug, and I'm trying to make these images a 'product ' on their own accord. Feedback is really very important to me. I appreciate any form of it: comments on the impact the images had on you (or saying it had none), things you enjoyed, things you hated, any artistic aspects - (composition, color, lights & shadows etc.) - any technical comments( eg Poser/Vue issues) and anything else you find relevant. If you dont know a lot (or at all) about Watercolors, Poser or Vue, please dont let it deter you from leaving a comment. Just comment on what you see and what it made you feel or think. You could also ask questions, and if I know how to answer - I will.

Wow that is one gorgeous image...super!

Very interesting piece of work. The "shards", fragments, they make me look, and look again. What is nature, what is artificial? Is she alive, or is she a statue? The sharp-edged shadows and the lack of ambient occlusion effects reinforce the "shard" impression of this image. There's only one thing that might improve this image: some ambient occlusion effects (you'll probably need postwork for this, I do not know an elegant way in Poser itself) where the foreground tree trunks meet the ground would enhance the notion of disparity between nature and statue. All in all, I like this. I really like this. Good job!

Very good beginning, but it definitely needs some postwork. Try using a blurr and smudge tool (very finely) around the edges of the various object where they are half buried in the ground. Try (very finely) to paint bits of grass and twigs rising up and obscuring these sharp edges. DO keep up the good work. DPH

Thank you for commenting! I took on board (some of) your suggestions and worked on it a bit more. I am hoping to replace my first posting with a newer version - hope it's improved. More specific: ORIGINALKITTEN : Glad you liked it. If you have another minute next time perhaps you'll say what you liked about too. SVDL: I was so pleased with your comments! If it made you think and wonder - I've done my job. In the new version I did some postwork on the bottoms of the trees and the foreground stones to make the edge more blurry andless linear (it did look as though they are growing out of a brown lake rather than land) Is that what you ment? IRONRODENT: I changed the appearance of the edges,as I said, but painting grass and twigs is a bit beyond my objective at this stage. These things will be taken into account when I do my painting, but I'm glad to be reminded just in case. PJZ99: Interesting.I guess the name "displaced" may conjure up the expectation of something bad,and thus she should be tense/surprised/scared. I am quite happy with her beeing relaxed. Acceptance of beeing in a starnge place may be a good discription.Perhaps I should change the name to "Do I belong here?" May go better with the feeling of ambiguity SVDL mentioned. Your comment about the left arm realy surprised me - I looked at the image for so long,I stoped noticing things. I asked my daughter to assume the pose and she commented she could easily do it but it would feel strange since the right side is relaxed and left isnt.So I changed it. Had to change the pody pse a bit as well, Throne size, adjust bird position and rerun cloth simulation. I think it's better what do you think?
pjz99
The left arm is quite a bit better, but you may want to take another look at the hand - the thumb is spread quite far, and the fingers are arched. A bit of backward bend on the fingers and a flatter, straighter line to all of them would probably look more relaxed. The good things I said still apply, good really work on the dress simulation, the bird is a nich touch.

Nice work! Looks like you're using the DAZ Cyclorama based on the shadows that are hitting the background image. The only way to solve that is to change the direction of your lights so the shadows don't reach the background or are cast away from the background. The problem with the left hand on the arm of the throne is that the dark shadow fades out the detail making it look a bit like a lobster claw, which is distracting. You might cbonsider moving the throne and figure so it is in not in that shadow. You might also want to try a little depth of field to blur the background so it doesn't look so 2 dimensional, but since your using it as a guide, you could probably do that when you paint the final image. You have created an "out of place" situation, it does have a "what is she doing there" feeling to it.

Nice, quite surrealistic!

I did my "final"changes and will post the image as a new version. The changes include: - posed the hand again (lobster claw indeed!) and changed the lighting's direction a bit. (comments on poses are particularly important to me,so thanks) - I used depth map shadows for the top part of the image and ray tracing in the front and some post work to get a transition from crisp to soft shadows and to eliminate some of the shadows on the back of the cyclorama. Cant change the direction of the light significantly since I know where I want the shadows to fall. I tried a test render with depth of field blur but didnt see a meaningfull diff. (probably need afew more tests to get the hang of it) bopperthijs: Thanks very much! Surrealism is definitely the janre I am aiming for.
