Clever compo Errol! One part of the shot is a glowing hot lava, other part is the allready "frozen in time" cooled, blackened crust layer.

Still looks like a microscopic capture of prunes in a fiery pit. And, I see no animal emerging from the base of the abyss. Fabulous lighting, POV and textural effects in this exquisite capture.

I used to have a large rock collection as a child, and in this collection there was one huge chunk of lava rock about 8" x 10" x 5" someone gave to me as a gift. It is fascinating to see the form when it cools, and even more fascinating to be able to see the formation of it, of which I have never had the privelege! In a way, I certainly envy you, but then again I'm not that brave, either. :o)

Mistakes in this unforgiving area are costly to life and limb. You must be sure footed and wear proper gear of you will suffer on this hike. Nice to know we have experienced hikers should the need arise~ Aloha~
