Description
In 1995, my friend John Funk was contacted by Peter David, author of many Star Trek novels, comic books, (Including "The Hulk" "Supergirl" "Star Trek" "Spiderman 2099" etc.) and also the author of the Spiderman movie adaptation novels you can find on the shelves right now. John, at the time, was a physical model builder whom I've known for many years. We had worked together before, and met Bjo Trimble, a lady most famous for the letter writing campaign to save Star Trek in both 1967 and 1968, when it was nearly cancelled by NBC. Bjo also was kind enough to get several FX artists contacts in the business, and a few years later, Mr. David needed a 3d model for the pilot of a new series for Nickelodeon, called "Space Cases" that he and Bill Mumy (aka Will Robinson from the original "Lost in Space"). We took my demo reel at the time (made in 3d Studio DOS version 2) and added a hastily built rough version of the ship above, and got the job. We completed 22 seconds of animation for the project, using 3 486 computers. We had a power outage, and had to rush to a hotel room to get our machines back online. The model above, was used in the pilot, with a different, glowing texture. The one above was re-textured to show it more as they intended. This model was not used in the series, as they moved production in house, to Canada. However, it did get us into the business. :)

Good concept, taking cues from nature for space ship design. And a great render!
