Description
Okay, so here's a work in progress that I'd like to get a bit more "polished".
I think it needs something in the way of postwork but I don't know what. I don't really know what I'm doing with that so if anybody can recommend tutorials or point me in the right directions, please do post here or site-mail me. I'd be really grateful! :)
I'm also happy to hear criticism or advice on any other aspect of this, although I can't promise I've got the technical expertise to execute any of the recommendations! lol.
Please view full size to get the most detail out of it.
Thanks for looking everyone and a big Hello to all the Critique Group members!
Cheers,
Ant.

Just a few brief notes:
1) This scene uses Stonemason's 'Cargo Bay' prop which has lights modelled into it. In order to try and light the scene "correctly", I placed lights in Poser (7) at the location of each of the lights. I quickly found that Poser allows a maximum of 8 lights (I think) in a scene. Oops! So...I had to just keep the ones that would affect the scene most. There is also a front-on spot to illuminate the main character.
2) Bump Maps - In Poser 7, it appears that when you load a saved scene, 2D image maps (from an "external" runtime) connected to the bump channel of a surface don't get reloaded properly. This means that on rendering, the bump doesn't render properly or at all. It's not until you browse to their location (using the open file dialog) and reload them, that they seem to render properly.
I only realised this by cranking up the bump value after I first loaded the scene and immediately rendered and no change to the "bumpiness" was noticed. After I had reloaded the bump image in the material room did it render as expected. Would be interested to hear if anybody else has experienced this, so site-mail me if you want to discuss.

Great POV and excellent expression!!
OrcaDesignStudios
Good so far. You might try adding some kind of light overlay to her face -- particularly her eyes -- to create a more appropriate focus for the piece. Right now, because of the highlights, her shoulders seem to be the focus.

Hey, great image! A few quick notes for your questions. One, I don't know if this was part of the issue, but as far as bump maps is concerned, a lot of older products have the bump texture map plugged into the "Gradient Bump" channel. Avoid this! Plug into just plain old "Bump". Gradient Bump, though it sounds fancy, is for the Poser 4 Rendering engine. If you are using Firefly, then you won't get the desired results. I agreed with OrcaDesigns about the face needing to be brought out. I can't find any good tutorials (maybe I should write one if I'm such a know-it-all! LOL). But if you are using Photoshop or a program with layer blending, what I like to do is duplicate the image onto multiple layers and then play with contrast, levels and sometimes Hues and Saturation. I then experiment with different layer blends modes. To bring out the face, if you duplicate the base layer, then brighten it up, then gently erase the non-face areas (in some cases not entirely, play with your opacity settings), you'll be able to subtly add light and bring attention to new areas. Well, I hope this might help. Great image, though! I love the posing and expression and the depth of field. Well done! I'll still give it a 5!

@ OrcaDesignStudios & ThrommArcadia: Thanks for raising those points - consider them taken on board! :)

You can do a postwork using Photoshop, for add more highlights in your fac, earms and legs. Textutes will be better using some custon brushes for add a more realistc details. But I like it if its not a comercial job!!
JOELGLAINE
Good DOF! Maybe darkening the background might bring the face out more? Only different thing I can think of. Other than that--This seriously rocks! I'd have put some custom textures on the clothes to show maybe a little grime to show she'd been sneaking around in dirty circumstances to get on the ship, but so far, so good! ^__^ V,,

WOW Magneficent ! Totally dramatic !

Fantastic scene! Excellent! Itlooks really fantastic
arcas
Great camera angle and posing/expression. Lots of implied story.

the clothes and skin on her body look excellent. i agree with others that her face doesn't seem to be the main focus. there is some harsh shadowing on the tops of her thighs and on her left collar from the top strapsthe wall at the front looks a bit too blurry
Rutra
Great image. It has mistery. Maybe it would be cool some shadow on the wall, or on her, of whatever she's looking at. I do like the DOF on the BG and the gravity in her blouse, fine details. I'm not a Poser expert so I can offer little technical advice. Anyway, IMVHO, here's what i see maybe could be improved (some already mentioned): - her outfit texture seems a bit too flat (needs bump increase) - the texture of the outfit, in the breast area, has some artifacts, specially in her right breast - there's a strange shadow of her left hand on her shoulder (that might be what in reality it would exist, given the lights, but still it attracts too much attention) - her neck seems a bit strange, the muscles seem a bit twisted (probably something you need to fix in postwork) - On a strictly personal level, I find her eyes too blue, almost like a doll, not very natural.
Whatthe
Very awesome job with the lighting, shading, and POV. The only thing that detracts from this, and it's no fault of yours, are her eyes. V4 has this problem in general, the eyes just don't have life to them.
Tiari
Inside the pantleg of her left short, there's a light coming from underneath that needs to be blacked out maybe with postwork. Something about the shape of the shirt on the breast seems unnatural to me. How to fix it, i dont know, but the heavy shirtcrease under the breast makes it seem "shoved up" under it if that makes sense. I agree with moe facial lighting, but other than those three i think its great.
Bea
I agree with the comments on the shirt - it does look unnatural but I thinks its a great image :) :)

Ok, re highlighting the face part. Assuming you have photoshop, go here... http://www.atncentral.com/download.htm... and get 'tracy's fill in flash'. This is an action that does all the layering for you, you just need to select a brush and go over the areas you want to highlight.

It's a great image, perfect model, athmosphere and pose!

Very nice!!!!!!!!BRAVO

the angle, pose and expression on this is great. for a simple image with no action, it has a great deal of drama. the overhead backlight is a really nice touch. in my opinion, i think the ambient lighting could be lower, especially considering the strong effect of the overhead light. the extreme depth of field adds to the drama. i think you chose a perfect combination of elements, and then posed them very naturally.
