Description

In days of old, valliant vikings were not buried, but given a pyre on a ship, bunt and sent adrift........ Created using bryce and P6 as well as plenty of paintwork in Photoshop with airbrushes. Some grainyness might be visible in the sky, that came from resizing to make it small enough resolution to be put on rendo. Ship is the Avalon Barge. Flames were created above the ship, in the form of dragon heads on purpose which took some doing. The burning remnants on the water are from breaking ship parts still afire and floating on the waves (the water itself is not on fire)

Really nice job here. I love the colours of the flame and sky reflecting on the water surface. Nice job.

I like the background and the composition. To me, the fire looks too clean, and too much like a small fire. (It looks a bit like a fire from lighter fluid on a model boat.) I do like the dragon heads, but think that maybe the fire could be a little smokier with sparks.

Magical image. In my opinion, the stylized flames and lack of smock do not detract , they add to the dream like atmosphere. Wish I could do something like that. (The mountains are completely black - would be nice to see a little bit of texture so it doesnt look like a cutout, but maybe its my screen. )

Stunning image. I think a bit of the fire's reflection against the sides of the fjord would show them a bit better. But overall this is a truely great piece of art.

What an incredible scene here. The lighting is magnificent and compliments the scene superbly. Excellent artwork and a very realistic perspective. Excellent! Steve :o)

I love this a lot. The fire effect is fantastic. Not to bright not to dark. Love the light arround the ship too. Excellent work.

nice feel to this work. the colors, the flames, and the softness of it are all very melancholy, and a wonderful contrast to the boat. somehow, the water looks a bit stock (like a flaming pear floodfill), so i'd say that something to make it more fitting for the scene and for the body of water (sea, not lake) would have made it stronger. good moody piece.

Really beautiful. I remember seeing a scene like this in the old movie with Kirk Douglas.

Lovely composition and good concept. I would like to see the water a little more choppy, although the reflection on the water surface is great.

Overall, great, VERY nice job on the water, I don't mind that it's very smooth. The flames look really nicely shaped - you did a great job painting them, I'm glad you explained that you painted them because I would have assumed you blended them in from a photo - however, they're a bit too big in scale, they seem to be coming from a smaller fire than how the scene shows. I don't know if you'd be willing to revise that, but if you do, you might think about making the flames more fractal-y, if that makes any sense. Higher rez would be really welcome as well, this is a lovely image and I'd like to see more of that fine detail to the water. If this is the rez you painted at, no problem, just might consider enlarging the image in Photoshop. Very cool dramatic image, very foreboding.
