Description

Statue in a Roman church, depicting the skin of a man who had been flayed alive. And people wonder where Thomas Harris gets his source material for his grand guignol Hannibal Lecter books. Go figure. Thanks for having a look!!!

Why would this be in a church. I had to look up the word flay because I have never heard of such a thing and ick it's true that people actually skinned people alive. For as long as I live I will never ever understand man's inhumanity against man, stupid wars included.

This is marvelous. What a view of something so odd and yet appealing. I had no idea such a thing existed but now I am intrigued. Thanks for making me aware and doing it with a nice photo!

I must admit I'm not shocked at all this was in a church, especially in Italy, they reacon the tally is nearly 30 million soles in the name of God, wonderful photography and a great subject.

Ah yes, the marvelous things man has done in the name of God .. something to be proud of, apparently. I find it amazing that these things are "glorified" in houses of worship, no less. But, it is part of our Judeo/Christian heritage, and needs to be kept alive so that hopefully it won't be repeated. On the other hand, sometimes it seems that we look back at our atrocities and say .. "hey that's a cool idea, let's do that again". Witness what's going on in today's world. None of it is new or original. Nevertheless, this is an awesome capture ..
