Description
Modeled in Hexagon and Carrara. Rendered in Carrara. Postwork in Photo-Paint. Critiques welcome.

It has taken nearly a year to complete this. I'm not entirely happy with the lighting. I wanted the scene to be naturally lit by the window but that required that the background be extremely overexposed to be realistic. The lady (who is acting as liaison/bodyguard) was modeled to be something of a hard boiled version of Jane Goodall. In spite of the subject matter, I was trying to go for a look that was somewhat ordinary and not fantastic.

that scene is "fantastic" in every shape and form of the word. i cannot tell what the object on the left is, but it gives such intrigue to the whole scene. a piece w/ a story in itself...

Awsome! Looks quite realistic. Seems like a very nice spot to spend a calm afternoon by tea. Ahhh... I can feel the atmosphere... :-)

This blew me away the moment I saw it. Just to make sure that I don't miss anything else that you create, consider yourself added to my "favorites" list.

This is an amazing image! My eye keeps being drawn back to that truly 'alien' alien - so alien that I haven't the slightest idea what I'm really looking at. Yet the very unremarkable nature of the humans' reactions (particularly the 'bodyguard') truly makes this scene fascinating! I'd love to know what's really going on here... there's clearly a back-story!

Great design and yeah the lighting is right on. I really like the a typical bodyguard...all these hot Laura Croft type space swashbucklers have to get old someday. Yeah I'd like to know more about this story and the characters. Great great great job.

Thank you all for the compliments. I do have a vague story behind this scene although I prefer the viewer to come up with his/her own story. Essentially it boils down to this: When we travel out of the Solar system, we find that the extraterrestrial "people" we find out there don't look like us, act like us, think like us, or even feel emotions like us. To us they can seem insane. Some races are so unpredictably different that we decide that it is safer to never interact with them (of course never is a very long time). But some alien races are more compatible. The key is to study them until their behaviors and motivations become relatively clear (to understand just how incredibly difficult this is, imagine trying to do the same thing to the human race). Only then do we attempt to contact them. This scene takes place after that point. The young man, who was instrumental in creating the translation interface for this particular race, has been authorized to have face to "face" interaction. He is currently discussing the concept of time. He has hired one of the best liaison/bodyguards in the galaxy. Her job is not only to protect him, but to protect the aliens too. She is comfortable in alien environments. She grew up out here and has never been to Earth. Rumor has it that she prefers the company of aliens to humans. She facilitated this meeting by finding another alien race (the blue guy on the left) who had had previous dealings with this race. --Nick

Fantastic picture! Aside from all the compliments above, I really like the details in the backgound.

Love your detailed attentions and colors usage. Five stars to this +++++!

in the background to the left, Is that architecture or the natural structure of the rock? :There's so much to look at here like the hair atop the alien's head(at least that's what it seems to be to me). I really like the fact that the alien is so other worldly that it doesn't sit at the table on a chair but leans to the table with the aid of that contraption by it's tentacles. This is a great sci-fi rendering a lot of thought went into this. Thanks for sharing it with us.

Thanks. What you see in the background is their version of a city.

It is quite an accomplishment actually! the lighting is still good and cudos and bravo!
