Description

Very basic render as the light set I WAS using made the computer choke as soon as it hit the hair. I still want to use that set as the reflection it creates on the dome behind her is kind of important to the pic. I'm working on getting it to work, but thought I'd post this one, using a basic daylight light set. A'alia de Santos, Ambassador of the Greylon Federation to the Imperial Court. She eagerly awaits her lifemate, who just happens to be a Human Admiral in the Imperial Navy. The reflection from the original light set showed the shuttle landing in front of her. Hope I can find a way to get that to work. :) DAZ: My lil Alien for A3, MFD and textures, cloak, RDNA: Sheriwyn Hair, Confections for Sheriwyn Hair. R'osity: SupraStation Greywolf

There is a weird looking light cast under her chin from somewhere that throws me off. One way to get a faux reflections is to select the material behind her and go to the reflection node and delete the sphere map and replace it with an image map. You'll have to play with the offset of U and V directions to get the faux reflection to line up right. Take a shot of her backside to stick into shot of the shuttle pic and you'll be set. The basic set-up is good if you can pull off the reflection right. Good character design. The ground needs a more textured bump map to indicate shadow and realism AND shadows, too. You're not there yet, but you are getting there!

Nice air of expectancy around here, you've capture that well. I agree with Joelglaine's comments about the shadows and textures. Hopefully we'll see a revision of this soon.

The basic set up is good, not sure about the light source under her chin. Not sure if it would work as I don't have that prop to see how the materials are set up, but have you considered handling the reflection via nodes on the dome structure instead of lighting?

Looks like it'll be a good one when you're done with it.... the focus, though.... if the dome is right behind her, and focus-blurred, the part "above" her head, and the "gizmo's' to the right should be, too? Lou.

Her pose and expression look good. The textures of the background prop are poor, low-rez in some points and plastic-look in others.

Odd thing about those props, both SupraStation and Delta Station. I can never get them to look like they do in the adverts. The textures always look low res and, quite frankly, suck wind. Since these bases have complete interiors, I can't understand such poor textures for close-ups. Oh well.

Nice Picture, One thing to speed up rendering with hair props is to make them invisible in raytracing by unchecking the box in the properties. In my experience is makes little difference in quality en its speeds up the renderingtime dramatically. The disadvantage is that it doesn't reflect anymore like you wanted, perhaps you can follow joelglaine's advice. Or you can perhaps add it with some postwork.

I like the way the overall space is divided into geometrical shapes, enhances the mechanical machines feel. Is she supposed to be human? she looks a bit mechanical too. (I wish she wasnt standing bang in the middle though)

Very basic render? well, she's still a beautiful creation. I've assumed A'alia is an alien humanoid. Whatever may be required to create more realism, it'll be a long time before I tire of looking at A'alia de Santos' image as it is.

Except for the low resolution textures on that platform and dome, I really like this. The character and pose convey anticipation beatifully.
