Description

This is the female Redwinged Blackbird ...perhaps. Monjo71 pointed out below the resemblence of the female to juvenile birds. This one does appear smaller and more disarrayed than the females I saw and is likely a baby fledged fairly recently. These are colored for camouflage, naturally. Even in the tiny spot of cattail reeds these birds call home and where they are now caring for their offspring, they only need move a foot down and no birds would be seen. I suppose in nature, male animals like the male redwinged are supposed to be the most colorful..all to attract the female. She has her work to do and needs cover. Well, with us humans, we guys got left out. : )

Although a little off in terms of focus - it's an interesting shot - songbirds are always so hard to catch! I wouldn't have recognized it either as for what it is!

It might be a female Tom, but from the size of it, it appears to be a juvenile redwinged blackbird. The young look like the females until they develop their adult plummage. As Klaus noted, the focus isn't spot on but the composition and colors are great. Nice work
