Description

Can't you hear that whistle down the line? Ah yes, just another folder of scores of fantastic fotos I've neglected since I joined Renderosity. Captured 5/06 at the Orange Empire Railway Museum in Perris, California. An 80-acre site featuring 200 steam, diesel and electric locomotives as well as passenger and freight cars, streetcars, and other railway equipment. Rail transportation in the West from the late 1870s through the 1960s is depicted. Okay, that's what the tour book says, but may I also add that besides a museum, the site is also a graveyard and a junkyard, with tons of rusted equipment lying around, loose rocks and tracks to scramble over, and big red ants to elude. Motto of the day there is, "watch your step!" But they do have a lovely small garden outside one of the structures. The area is a virtual desert, so don't go there in the summer, or you'll be baked to a crisp. Just thought I'd throw that in for color. Most of the stuff is outside, but several well maintained old streetcars are stored inside of a huge car barn. More to come of this memorable sojourn into the past, so stay tuned. Thanks for the look-see, and, ALL ABOARD!

I have ridden in an old steam locomotive in Old Sacramento years ago, and that was fun. There are wonderful old trains in the train museum in Carson City, Nevada that are really interesting to see. Your experience sounds a lot more "wild West" though. I like hiking through old things. :o) Excellent capture.

A great beast of a machine. Wonderful POV. I wish they'd bring back steam trains, they have an air of romance about them. xx

Nice shot! You got me all involved again. Now I'm wondering why it's all silver. Being primed, perhaps? In the process of restoration? What's the little red-and-white thing on the engineer's compartment? I got curious (which is why my brain is full of such random bits of information) and did a search. There's a fascinating article about this engine at www.oerm.org/pages/up2564.html

Yore? Yore? can you find a more dated word than Yore? :-) ok, well, the engine is great. Your perspective on it is wonderful and with lots of detail. So in southern-speak that would be your, you're and yore???

The legal vice president of Santa Fe railroad introduced me to the museum by wearing a striped cap to a meeting. I had only known of Prado Park TT in Perris before that. Did you take the Interurban on the old twisted SantaFe mainline rails? This one with all it's tubes, rivets and bolts conveys the manual labor of that time. I can understand the wide firebox, the heavy rear truck and the flanges on the drivers better now that I made my 3D model of one.

Great shot of this fine old locomotive. We still have steam trains in some parts of Yorkshire and I have ridden on them once or twice. It's a great experience. Look forward to seeing more from your great day out. Take care. Eileen xxxd
