------------- Tales of the Silver Gryphon - Good Guys Wear Black

Kaylynn fell back from the door, stunned, her mind locked in the clutch of fear only the sight of one of the Undead Lords can bring about. Orlagnor stepped closer to her, his ancient broadsword held lightly in his left hand, his right reaching forward to work his dark sorcery on Kaylynn's mind. Suddenly a blast of magic bounced off his armor, then as quickly an invisible hand of telekinetic force grabbed his helmet visor and slammed it down. Distractions at best, but enough. He stopped and looked up at the sole figure still standing in the hallway. The man might be impressive to some, but to the Deathknight of Old Calladon, he was an insect. The others were around here somewhere. He could feel their life forces. He could taste their goodness, like sickening honey on the air. In a voice that came from the bottom of a grave, he spoke.

"Your time will come, boy. First, the half-angel's life force will be mine."

Chris sneered. The black liquid adamant flowed from his skin, out around his torso, arms and legs, forming a paper thin layer of nearly impenetrable, completely flexible, black armor.

"Is that so, bone head? Ya know, I've never been able to figure it out, why you arrogant bastards always have to make pronouncements you know are gonna be proven wrong."

Orlagnor stopped, then turned slowly to face the young thief.

"You think I'm a fool, Steward? I've existed for five centuries. I'll be around long after the name of Steward, indeed the name of the Kingdom of Carellon, is long gone."

Chris smiled and swung the Qutar lazily off his shoulder, flashing it sideways to catch the torch light.

"Really?" Chris tried his best to sound bored.

Orlagnor focused his magics. Chris could almost see hatred in the burning red points of light in the blackness of the Deathknight's helmet.

"You seek to impress me with the legends of El'Mechem? Do you forget I am far past fear, young thief? Could the same be said for you? You are no Demonhunter, boy. And you're not your mother either. Wasn't it she who destroyed Isu Mahla'atma with that very blade?"

"I see you've been boning up on my family history. Well, you're right. I'm not my father. And I'm not my mother either. Actually I'm a little bit of both. And I'm no fool either, Orlagnor."

A blaze of brilliant light cut through the walls of the chambers behind him, cutting straight through the hallways and right through him. It did nothing to any of them,
