Caught some pics of this painted lady late yesterday resting in the sunlight. She was very cooperative. You can see from the edge of her battered wings that she has been around for awhile. I

I think this is actually a "Red Admiral" butterfly and not a "Painted Lady". Although it appears to be very pale in color as compared to most, the markings indicate Red Admiral. As far as Butterflys go, Red Admirals are pretty calm and willing to let people get close to them. The life span of both is usually early spring till winter freezes but in warmer parts of North America, a few individuals actually overwinter. Lee
