Description
A followup to yesterday's Memorial Day holiday in the USA.
F/A-18 captured 10/30/06 while taxing down the runway after landing during the Auto/Copter Expo show held annually at the beautiful Armed Forces Reserve Center in beautiful Los Alamitos, California. This is the same show that featured the 1912 Ford I posted a while back.
This is from a zoom shot taken at quite a distance away, the F/A-18 being originally less than half the size of the one shown above. I'm surprised it held up so well in the enlargement. Also, the aircraft in the original was quite dark because of backlighting at that distance. Remedy to all this: good old dependable Photoshop, God's gift to man. POSTWORK RULES!
The McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing) F/A-18 Hornet is a modern all-weather carrier-capable strike fighter jet, designed to attack both ground and aerial targets. Designed in the 1970s for service with the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marine Corps, the Hornet is also used by the air forces of several other nations. It has been the aerial demonstration aircraft for the Blue Angels since 1986. Its primary missions are fighter escort, fleet air defense, suppression of enemy air defenses (SEAD), interdiction, close air support and reconnaissance. Its versatility and reliability have proven it to be a valuable carrier asset, though it has been criticized for its lack of range and payload compared to its contemporaries. The Hornet has also been exported to several nations worldwide.
The F/A-18E/F Super Hornet is a distinct, evolutionary upgrade to the F/A-18 designed to serve a complementary role with Hornets in the U.S. Navy.
That said, thanks for looking in today, and have a superb work week.

What a fantastic capture and excellent use of postworking (I'd be lost without it!!!) I'd love to take a flight in one of these for my next holiday instead of the dreaded passenger "crush-my-legs" plane that I normally embark!! Excellent capture my dear friend. xx

great job on the post work. Cool!

Awesome capture ol boy, I just love the noise these puppies make. The CNE airshow normally has a couple of these bad boys flying around. Two or three times a show they pour on the afterburners, and I get all weak at the knees. Cool shot harry!!

Zoom zoom. Did you hear about the recal because of a wing defect?
goodoleboy
TwoPynts: No, I am not aware of any recall of this particular aircraft.

Wow - nice shot! I'm impressed that you were able to enlarge it so much and still get a good, clear image. Your postwork abilities, of course, are beyond reproach. Nice beveled frame, too. A great choice for this photo. (I would not have been bored with this part.)
