Wow... that is awesome. I love viewing the stars and pointing out the constellations. Ursa Major and minor being the most obvious to us. My favorite has always been Orion the Hunter. I believe we can see Venus some mornings. Thank you for this glimpse 'Under African Skies'. I love the song you chose but am currently singing Paul Simon... lol :0)

Love how the words to that song go so well with your capture. I remember the first time I saw Saturn through a telescope. I was shocked. It looked like someone had stuck a sticker of it in the sky. I need to crack the astrology books, for I know not much about the stars. I do, however, love to lay in the grass at night, out here in the country; and gaze. Preferrably with someone who could teach me a few things about what I'm looking at :) Great to see u back piet. I've missed you. xx

I love the night sky too and even have a modest telescope, but atmospheric conditions in south Florida rarely make viewing much fun. Nicely captured there Piet, welcome back.

This is fabulous! It isn't easy to star gaze for me any more as the city lights and surrounding urban areas tend to bleach out most of the amazing stuff. Love this peek you provided!

Welcome back Piet, I've missed you! I love looking at the stars and often make a wish on a shooting star! The best ever experience I had was not far from your part of the world - Namibia. We were walking out at about 10pm and the sky was lit up with so many stars that I could not believe my eyes. They were so large that you felt as if you could reach up and touch them. It was the most amazing experience and one I will never forget! I was so mesmerised I didn't think to take a picture, even though my camera was around my neck. And that is not like me, because if it moves I take a picture of it!! Thank you for sharing this night sky with us and, once again, welcome back. Hugs. Eileen xx

I have allways felt the sky was fascinating to look at, and to heare about atronomy, I do find very interesting. I even have a star binocular or what you call such one. Though I havent used it much... im not very good at it. I have to prior my time for what I burn mostly for and i have a whole lot of interesses. HAHA I love to play with Google earth too, but that is more to look at our world.

I am also a lover of the stars and very interested in our solar system...this is fantastic and I am so happy you shared it with us...it's amazing that some people look up in the sky at night and see things that they don't even know that they are seeing...but then there are people like you, my friend...who can explain it to us. Thank you for sharing.

i'll be gazing tonight to see if i can spot it....there is a site called ....heavens above, it is a sky chart, you type in your location and time and it shows you what your looking up at, makes things abit easier

I too love the stars, especially on a cold clear frosty night when the stars feel near enough to touch. A great idea for a shot, and Vesta does look pretty big. I love looking for all the satellites too. Great to see you posting again.

I show some kid the noth star and another kid pointed to a diff star in a diff way and I know I was wrong lol I give up on stars. I like to look at them but they all look like the noth star to me. I know it be the south cross under the world where you at; you see diff stars there. cool looking

Sometimes after we view the sunset from Mauna Kea, a crowd of people would gather around the Onizuka building at the 9,000 ft level to view the stars. Laser lights are used to show and point where the different stars are. Pretty interesting. Excellent job here. Aloha

The stars are the clearese when we go out to The Hollow. It is far from city lights, so one has a crisp awesome view!
