Description

This is from a series I took in a dark wooded area, conditions were difficult but hope I managed to get things right in the end.. Barn owls are one of the world's most widespread birds but their population is rapidly declining in the wild possibly due to barns and old buildings being converted into modern houses. There are now probably only 2000 pairs left in the wild in Britain. Thanks for looking and any comments you care to make

The lighting surely puts the focus where it belongs - right on the eyes! Excellent capture in difficult lighting.

great pic mate, he looks like he's poking his head out, testing the water so to speak.

Here I see so many dead on the shoulder of the freeway. They lock onto a running small rodent and don't see that they are flying into the path of a fast moving car or truck. It is illegal to pick up these bodies and mount them, study them and learn about them, which I think is sad because they end up being ground into the roadside under thousands of vehicle tires - we take their life and then give them no dignity in death. This is a breathtaking shot and the way the light falls on its face is "illuminating"

Perfect lighting, Danny! Such a beautiful creature. We have owls here they hoot in the trees at night, the sound is comforting in the darkness.. So sorry to lean the barn owl is in decline..Your work is superb. Hugs. Diane.

As always I love your work and this is no exception! Your attention to detail is unsurpassed and the lighting in this shot is supurb. I don't know if it's my monitor or, as you said, the difficult lighting conditions but his eye seems lost which is a bit distracting to me.

Now I think you did a great job here. It is visible the light conditions were difficult but that's all in the game.. you couldn't change it when you were there.. Much more important is that you managed to get such a gorgeous picture of this bird.. one of my personal favorites btw although I rarely see them.. What about the short eared owl in your country (Asio flammeus) ? Hw are they doin'?

A wonderful photo. We have fewer barn owls also. I wonder if pesticides and insecticides have something to do with their dwindling numbers.
