Finally made it, my youngest son is on the left. Joel and Megan tested together, both had just earned their black belts. Quite an accomplishment for a 16 year old when you consider he tested for three styles of Karate, the Shotokan, the Gojo Ryu, and the Shitoryu. So when many black belts learned 25 kata's or forms, Joel had to learn 75. The testing took place over 2 days, reviewing all of the forms, physical conditioning, sparring multiple black belts, weapons, and finally a written test. I am very proud of his accomplishment, can you see me smile? :-D

THAT is quite an accomplishment. As my master is fond of saying though, black belt it only the beginning. ;'] I made it to Brown (Okinawa Te) and my wife and 7 year old son are almost green belts in Tae Kwon Do, though the school takes more of an MMA approach. That is some testing, big congrats to your son. Make sure he doesn't neglect his ground game as well, he is a grand master in the making.

Thank you for the compliments, they are currently working on a solid ground game. Arm and leg locks, arm bars, a mixture of Karate and Ju-Jitsu. He is finding out that it is quite a lot of fun, but physically very demanding. You are absolutely correct, our Sensei stated that now he is capable of learning Karate. :-)

Many Congrats on a Job Hard Fought!!! Is Megan your daughter or just a friend of your son? They make a cute couple, that is of course if they are not bro and sis!!!

Megan is just a childhood friend. My middle son is the same age as Megan, they both graduated from High School this year at the age of 18 years. I will give Joel and Megan the congratulations.
