Description

No matter our age There is a place within us That remembers And longs for And loves Our lost innocence. For me now, my life seems to end and begin again on the day my beloved died. It was a year ago , on June 17, 2006, that I posted an image called 'The Lion's Roar', not knowing that within hours my soul mate of thirty years would leave me. On that day I lost my love ... I lost my innocence. I no longer believe in happily ever after, but I still believe in the beauty, the wonder, and the healing power of nature, art, and love. The love I have received from my family, the hugs from my grandchildren, the birth of my new grandson, the love and support from past and newfound friends and artists here, have all kept my spirit going. And doing my art, and viewing others art, has kept my spirit growing. The beauty of nature has been so healing, and the kisses from my doxies have kept the joy alive in my heart. It has been a year of indescribable heartache for me, a year of change and challenge, and transformation, a year of loneliness beyond anything I can put into words, a year of deafening silence, a year of living without LJ's music, a year without LJ's love. But I have survived when I thought I wouldnt. I have done things I thought I couldn't, I have created over a hundred images, and I am learning to have a new relationship with myself, and with my beloved, a relationship of being grateful for the love, the life, and the memories and passion we shared. I want to give a special hug to all who have been so supportive of me, of my art, this past year. I will be forever thankful for the gift of your images, of your caring, and your friendship. Carol Image credits and notes: Another in my AFRICA- Survival in the Wild Series, created in Photoshop CS, using a cub photo compliments of Shannon and Jonathan, painting techniques, and a painted skies background by Ferguson. I thought about what I would post on this anniversary and decided on lions, because the year began and ended with lions. Lions have always held special meaning to me since my childhood, for their beauty and strength. Butterflies symbolize transformation and this one is filled with hearts. And those wildflowers grew close to our home here in Colorado.

What a wonderful picture to post to mark the first year of the loss of your beloved husband. It is great that you have kept making your wonderful art throughout, we have certainly appreciated that, and hope that that has helped in the healing. I love how these little cubs are looking at your flowers and the butterfly. Beautiful.

What an incredible journey you have come to. Full circle. Beginnings, endings and back to beginnings again. Superbly told and captured in this image. It took me nearly 7 years to get to a point I didn't want to cry every day after my husband passed. Family and friends make ALL the difference in the world. Lots of hugs and love to you. Bunny

You have been amazingly creative in the past year, Carol, and I just know LJ would have been so proud of you, not only for your art but for your strength in dealing with his loss. He would have loved this image. It's so beautiful, as you are, and your thoughts on innocence are very moving. Many warm hugs to you!

Gorgeous artwork. I know your heart aches, but 30 years with the one you love is surely a gift you will treasure for the rest of your life. Those years made you the artist you are today. May God comfort you.

We don't know each other but my heart broke for you one year ago, I always felt it was the most difficult thing someone could live. Your words are truly inspiring and brought tears to my eyes. But it is true, it was a gift to know such love with a soul mate. A really wonderful picture to mark the anniversary and your new life. I especially like the flowers :)

Oh Carol...your words made me cry like a baby over here... I know how losing someone can be so very hard. LJ was - and still is, for me - an inspiration to many here and others, I imagine, outside of this site. It is with fondness that he is remembered. From what I can tell, your words about him and how you speak of him, he was a beautiful man. His beauty lives on in you. The thing, I noticed, when dealing with the loss of someone you love, is to close your eyes and remember their smile...and hold onto it, for it is the life in you sometimes. My thoughts and blessings are always with you, Carol. And you may not know me well, but please feel free to contact me if you ever just need someone to talk to. I'm always here. =) Beautiful, beautiful picture.

A stunning testament to the strength of a love that transcends all. My heart and thoughts are with you. I pray that this year will bring you the strength to hear his music within yourself. It's there waiting for you to be able to hear it again. A touching and beautiful tribute. BJ

I've been away for a long time, missed the anniversary, although a sad remembrance. You go before most of us on that lonely road and yet, as you say, it's also full of love. Your art has become an immense leap and it was fabulous before. What is it about pain that drives artists to create? My hat is off to you. You are on another level and although you feel alone you know that you are surely not. Cheers.
