Description

Ghosts, creatures from alternate dimensions, whoever they are and whatever their purpose, they always seem to pop-up just where you're no actually looking. Why? Well, perhaps some things are best left as mysteries. Or, perhaps all I need is an elementary grasp of how to build suspense in a movie. Either way, don't you hate it when this happens? This is actually a test image that got out of control. I like how it turned out, I confess. I wanted to mix sci-fi elements with the Victorian look of The Study and then added in the neat shader effects of pwEffect for the ghost/creature/whatever. Credits (all available over at DAZ): * Rendered in DAZ|Studio 1.5. * Victoria 4.0, by DAZ 3D * Juni Hair, by Out of Touch * V4 Domino, by Lourdes Mercado * Domino Fashion, by Romantic-3D and Boundless * ShadowDancer for V4 (pants), by Lourdes Mercado * Metal Stiletto Boots for V4, by dx30 * V4 Future Cop (Sapphire_Gun), by 3D Universe * The Study, by Redhouse * The Study Expansion, by Redhouse * Zenia for Aiko 3 (arm band), by Ravenhair * pwEffect, by Poseworks I think the boots got cut off in the final image, oh well. The Aiko armband was used for part of the ghost/creature because of it's spiral shape. I found pwEffect easy to use and was able to make the glowing things and laser light fairly quickly. There are many parameters to tweak so one could have a lot of fun with this. I was reasonably happy with the laser, it's a bit too bright in parts, but has some of the uneven quality that occurs in a real beam because of dust and stuff in the air. There is another effect from a real visible laser, a scintillation that is neat in a darkened room, I think it's due to polarization, maybe. That I have no clue how to capture.

For the laser, may be trying the "ghastly gas" or "mysty blue"(with a color change) PWEffect mixed with a second Effect like "crackling pink","phantom" or "X-Ray" (2 guns, aprented to each other, one fully visble, the other only the laser visible) This is a great looking scene ,love the pose and settingnWell done!

Thanks cyanure for the comments and the suggestions. I just bought pwEffect this afternoon and just applied one of the pwEffects and then just poked at the new parameters until something passable turned up. Hopefully I'll be a bit more systematic next time.

I don't have pwEffect so I can't tell you what to use to fix this but your current laser is coming off more as a beam of ketchup than it is highly focused photons. A quick fix to that would composite the beam additively to the picture. There must be a setting in the materials room for that. No? Your fire and ball of energy on the table have more of a feeling of light. I do like the counter-balance of sci-fi in the Den.

Yes, turn up the ambience on the beam, and maybe fiddle with an opacity map? (I don't have pw effect so I'm not sure if it uses standard ds materials settings or not.)
