Description

Captured on landing 10/30/06 at the Los Alamitos Auto/Copter Expo Show held annually at the beautiful Armed Forces Reserve Center in beautiful Los Alamitos, California. I bet you didn't think helicopters could be this cute. Evidently it is civilian and not military. This is the four-seat version of the Robinson Helicopter Company's R series. The two-seat version is the R22 and entered service several years before the R44. I have a lot of statistical data on the R22, but not on the R44 as yet -- maybe next time -- but my 2001 World Aircraft Encyclopedia claims it was first certified in December 1992. Now thousands of them are in operation all over the world. In 2000 the standard model cost $294,000 to purchase and $120.93 to operate over 500 hours; I checked on Google today and found some 2006 models can run up close to the upper $300,000 range. For the price on the new 2007 models you have to call. In 1997 the R44 became the first piston-engined helicopter to fly around the world. I know deep down that Tunde would like to be at the controls and zipping around in one of these. Have a good one!

Nice clean shot of this helicopter. I'm not really up on them so this is new territory for me.

Tunde, and me too! Nothing like like a chopper to make you feel the freedom of flight!

Yes Harry You right, I would love to do that...feel a blood rushing to my head...can I screem too? More fun...lol Would be a great opportunity to take many photos from inside a helicopter....all the instruments and some aerial shots as well. And yes this is a cute chopper.

I've never flown in a helicopter, but I got to go up in a two-seater ultralight once. Best flight I ever took! Man, there's nothin' like flying around in a lawn mower! This helicopter looks like it would be really maneuverable, and loads of fun. Nice shot, my dear, although I DO hope you were kidding about the roses!
